...Anna! Anna left me a comment, suggesting how I might get more traffic to this baby. Which is wonderful, because that's what the post was all about. So, Anna (if that's her name. Should I change names to protect people. Nah, but I should DEFINITELY stop stealing pictures off Google) suggested I give stuff away. Give HAWAIIAN stuff away. How great is that?!?! People love free stuff!!!
So, here's what we're gonna do. If you want this Hawaiian thing (it's a REALLY cool Hawaiian thing, I'm looking at it now. Now I'm holding it. Jamie and Judi if you want to tell your dad about it, so he can get in on it, feel free) leave me a comment, telling me your favorite post of mine and why. Or, give me ways to improve and excel, in blogging or life. No, just blogging. OH, OH and maybe you have to follow my blog too. But maybe not. Hard to say. I'll just change the rules as I go. Then on Monday, I guess, I'll randomly pick one using an online number,or letter, generator. Or I'll pick my favorite one, I'll keep you posted!
Do I think this will make me the next William Shakespeare? Or even the next William Shakespeare of blogging? No, probably not, but I think I might get some compliments/constructive criticism out of it, and one of you might get a coconut! Might, who knows, maybe that's not even the giveaway item. So, friends let's take a chance, just like Celine Dion said!
kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate!!1
ReplyDeleteNot at all the response I'm looking for Jamie.
DeleteWell, i just wanted to be the first one to comment and I felt some pressure and that's all i could come up with. But, I do like your tan.
Deleteoh oh oh, now I get it. I like all your posts. I can't just choose one. And I agree with Skull, use random.org. Seems like the best way to go even though I don't even know what random.org is. eek!
DeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! No Jamie you got it. Everyone else has it wrong. I would have also accepted "you have nice teeth".
DeleteKate-I'm not 100% sure that my name will show up because I have no idea what a blog is, but in case it doesn't...my name is Meghan Christenson. Age 29. I really like the stories in the beginning about you growing up. I would like to hear more stories about you now. Although if I'm being honest I just don't have time for blogs nowadays. Good ideas to get me to read: 1.) pictures. Drawn or otherwise. 2.) mention my name. 3.) post it to Facebook. One blog I do read is the oatmeal. Lots of pictures and a distinct focus on real life things.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Meghan Christenson
Age 29
P.s. I really hope I win the chocolate covered macadamia nuts.
THANK YOU Meghan!!! ALL great suggestion. I think shout out are TOTES gonna be what gets this blog off the ground.
DeleteOr should I say: Shout outs are totes gonna be what get this "blog" off the ground.?
DeleteI like your positive and really measurable critique, Meghan. I totes agree. Kate, use that sleek robot phone (still toting the droid?) and post more photos of what you're seeing. Since I've never been to Hawaii you might as well be in a fictional world as far as I'm concerned, especially since my only ideas of Hawaii have come from Saved By the Bell: Hawaiian Style.
DeleteYour writing definitely keeps me reading but we're children of sensation so fill my visual senses with anything... really ANYthing. I'll eat it up.
much love,
Blair
Thanks Blair! I do still have me DROID!!!! Hawaii is basically an elaborate movie/tv movie set.
DeleteJust keep writing and posting. At least twice a week. Put links to each post on Facebook. Comment on other people's blogs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dan!
Deletefirst of all, i really hope the thing you are giving away is some sort of decorative piece made out of shells...handmade by you of course. i think i remember you promising to make some sort of rodent...
ReplyDeleteand second, childhood sandbo stories are always good, especially if they can somehow weave into your present day life. could the sleigh story somehow connect with your life on a hawaiian beach? i'd like to see you taking these kinds of literary risks.
ps-even if i dont "win" will you still send me something? please?
That's a very Devid Sedaris task to ask of me.
Deleteps- how bold of you to ask!
I did a practice "pick a winner" and it was you!!! Let's hope this luck continues!
Deletehello gatass. i agree with danielpelfrey - consistently post. i was shocked as shit to come here and see several entries since the 5th. keep it up, yo. just don't talk about me.
ReplyDeleteso that you don't alienate any of your wonderful readers by playing favorites, you should use http://www.random.org/ to select your winner of the fine hawaiian goody. i hear it's what all the legit bloggers use.
finally, i'm in the same category as your mama. i'll read as long as you post, so i insist you don't count me in the drawing.
Thanks Skull!
DeleteI liked the post about me the most. Mostly because it was about me. That being said, I know you can't write about me EVERY day so I think you should keep it coming with stories of awkward encounters and funny anecdotes. I also think videos of you doing funny things should be included. Like "Kate on the Street." You could do intentionally awkward things to unsuspecting guest stars(victims?). That could go viral fast!
ReplyDeleteThanks for providing this distraction. I'll be waiting for my gift.
Rachel
Thank YOU RL. You inspired me to make a little video, to post later!
DeleteHow did I not know you had a blog. PS - I only want something Hawai'ian if its wrapped on bacon and/or dipped in chocolate.
ReplyDeleteYou have to enter me in the giveaway because I invented it.
ReplyDeleteI like the post about the I.C.'s the best ... that is one that had me rolling on the floor, and crying.
More posts about them, please.
And pictures of Hawaii.
Peace
I like the December 21st post entitled "Glimpse of Island Life". I believe this is where you first introduced the I.C. Filled with the wonderful Kate humor we have come to expect yet also quite informative about whats going on over there in your life in paradise.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you know I am an avid reader of your blog but I have yet to see that recognized...so yes, a shout out would be nice...like that time at the CYO fundraiser dinner...thanks :)
And P.S. while I have a lengthy list of blogs, including yours, which I read regularly (maybe too regularly), I follow none. I prefer to stalk in secret. So don't feel left out ;)
DeleteThanks Clover! I already have an elaborate post idea where you get a shout out. It involves a give away, so it may take a while. But I think it's worth it!!
DeleteSo I really like Rachel's idea of "Kate on the Street", although a case could be made for "Kate on the Beach". Maybe Rachel should win the prize, but in my heart, I think it should go to anyone that has been to the Honolulu Zoo with you.
ReplyDeleteDad? Is that you?
DeleteI like to think so!
DeleteYes, Jamie...I missed the part where you put your name on the post, so for now I guess I'm Unknown
DeleteIt's so hard to pick a favorite post. I love a good Sandbo family story but I also love the musings of your day to day life with the IC.
ReplyDeleteI think there should be more pictures! And post regularly. I check often....probably too often considering that I have work to do....but the prospect of a possible blog post being there and me not knowing about it is worth it. Keep up the good work!
Being the World Famous Blogger of www.mysocalledjob.net my advice is the following.
ReplyDelete-Buy the domain name taleofalifelessackward.com(or.net)
-Move this to Word Press (it's more professional and you can personalize every aspect of it)
-Set up your Twitter to include the blog address and tweet your observations that could become longer blogs
-Post on facebook & twitter when you post something new. Most people don't remember to look all the time so remind them.
-Be consistant with the posts.
-Post on other blogs with your address
-Find your niche it appears everyone that commented (including myself) enjoy the stories about your family best. If you want to rant about roommates or other things have a different outlet for those stories.
-have a blog roll and see about getting on other people's.
-Have guest bloggers and be one too
-I have had luck with being mentioned on a local podcast try writing in to your favorite shows.
That's all I can think of for now.
Loves
Christy
Kate,
ReplyDeleteYour word choice, and humorous writing is just the greatest. I enjoy your blog, I don't read it very often, but when I do I love to catch up on what I've missed. So keep em tweets flowing, or blog a bloggin? Sorry this is starting to sound a bit like a Tina Turner medley. Anyways, if I had one recommendation it would be to blog more often, and about Island Life... I agree with other about the IC. But honestly, I don't know how you bloggers find so much to say about anything. Inspiring.
